Conor McGregor planning to fight in the UFC in 2018

Conor McGregor’s head coach John Kavanagh believes the Irishman will return to fight in the UFC later in 2018 and stated that he’s “back in the gym every day”.

McGregor, who last fought in the boxing ring against Floyd Mayweather Jr., currently holds the UFC lightweight belt but his inactivity has sparked controversy over whether he should be stripped or not.

UFC president Dana White recently said a lightweight matchup between interim champion Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov scheduled for April 7 would be for the “undisputed” title but he also declined to provide an update on current lightweight champion McGregor.

But despite such talk of potentially losing the belt, McGregor’s coach appears confident that his fighter will return to the UFC later this year.

“There’s so much happening in the division and things changing around and what have you. I can’t say who [he’ll fight]. I can’t say when [he’ll be back],” Kavanagh said in a Facebook live interview with Wimp 2 Warrior.

“As people who follow him on social media will see, he’s back, very motivated, training a lot. He’s in the gym every day.

“The plan seems to be forming and getting more exact every day that [he’ll be] back in the UFC this year.”

“When and against who, I would be just guessing.”

McGregor last fought in the Octagon against Eddie Alvarez in November 2016 in a fight he won via second round TKO.
